French company Bongrain buys stake in Argentina’s Milkaut

It has been announced that the French company Bongrain has ordered its Brazilian subsidiary to buy a 54% stake in the Argentine company Milkaut to take advantage of the rise in international milk and lactose prices.

Milkaut has been in serious economic difficulties since last year and not even well known names such as George Soros and Hugo Sigman could come to an agreement with the Argentine companies creditors.

It seems that Bongrain managed to sort out these difficulties and will soon be able to take advantage of Milkaut’s strategic location in one of the worlds biggest milk producing regions located in the south of the province of Santa Fe.

Argentina produces 10.4 billion litres of milk a year and exports 20% of this. Bongrain will invest US$6 million to modernize the Milkaut plant and take advantage of the improved international milk market.
